Espresso

The key to making good specialty coffee drinks is to know how to make a good espresso. Without espresso you couldn't make a cappuccino, latte or mochaccino.

There are two different methods for making espresso:
  1. Stove-Top Espresso Maker
  2. Electric Espresso Machine
A good stove-top espresso maker made from steel will give you a great tasting demitasse of espresso in just a few minutes.

There are also lots of electric espresso machines on the market today that add a milk steaming valve. This is an important feature for people who want to steam milk for cappuccinos and other coffee drinks.

Tips for a good cup of espresso:
  • Use fresh clean water. Save your tap water for you lawn. Your espresso should be make with filtered or bottled water.
  • Do not pack the grounds in your coffee basket. Lightly tap the ground in. Packed grounds won't let the right amount of water in.
  • Clean any grounds off the rim of the coffee basket. These loose grounds could affect the way the basket is sealed or they might end up in your cup.
  • "Crema" is the foam that forms when your espresso starts to flow into the cup. It's desirable for crema to form. There is nothing wrong.
